Speech therapy is a type of therapy for people with communication disorders such as stuttering, voice disorders, or those who have difficulty swallowing. The goal of speech therapy is to improve and maintain communication skills in an individual. Speech therapists work with the individual to create a plan that works best for them and covers their personality, interests, goals and their environment. The therapist will also teach them how to complete daily tasks such as speaking in public or at work. Speech therapists also look at areas where they may have deficits such as reading or writing because they are important skills like speaking that can impact your life outside the context of your activity.
