? With the alarming situations all around and the rising need for oxygen and a life support system, in this pandemic, it is very crucial to know about oxygen helps beforehand. Both Oxygen Concentrator and Ventilator are life support systems to ensure the breath in a person who can’t breathe normally or has severe breathing issues. Both play a role of immense importance.

Ventilators – These are the electronic life support systems that are connected to an oxygen cylinder. The person in critical condition is put on a ventilator and a mask connected through it which pumps oxygen in a person. The mask is collected oxygen from an oxygen cylinder that has pre-stored oxygen in it for emergencies. These work as external lungs and decrease the load on the lungs and help a person breathe and stay alive. Ventilators have screens displaying real-time pulse and oxygen rates to ensure the safety of a person.

Oxygen concentrators – Unlike ventilators, these do not have pre-stored oxygen. This is a machine that concentrates the oxygen in the surrounding air by removing excess nitrogen and carbon dioxide. This is oxygen concentrated on the spot, so it eases the process as finding an oxygen cylinder could be a tedious task in such situations as now.

These can be useful in mild or moderate cases as they can provide 5-10 liters of oxygen per minute. But severe cases require 40-45 liters of oxygen per minute, where the oxygen concentrator becomes incompetent and so ventilators need to be used.
