Amazon India has made a very important announcement on its website recently. The announcement was related to the choice of language on the website. Like all other online shopping websites, Amazon India also operates in English. But it will soon give its customers the facility of choosing from the different options of languages. The step is taken by Amazon India to reach those who don’t have knowledge of English. Such customers would now find it easier to avail Amazon India’s services.

LetsdiskussThis Tuesday, Amazon India issued a statement, in which it said that Hindi is the mother tongue of India and the people should have the freedom of availing the facilities in the language they are most comfortable with. Amazon India’s Vice President, Manish Tiwari, told media, “My mom always used to ask why we can’t shop in Hindi. Our customers have the same query. That’s why we took this step”.

This should not go unnoticed that Amazon India has declared the Hindi app and website, just before the beginning of the festive season. The step, therefore, ensures the customers from all over by the addition of Hindi language. It is being thought of as a tactics for competing with Flipkart-walmart.

In 2015, Snapdeal also thought of adding Hindi language option along with Telugu and 12 other languages, but it did not get any reaction from the consumers and hence was put off.

The director of Amazon India, Kishore Thota says that they will think about the inclusion of other languages also, but only after seeing the response of customers towards Hindi.
