What is a 2010s fashion trend that absolutely needs to make a comeback?

Honestly, tumblr-era oversized flannels, ripped skinny jeans, and messy effortless layering need to come back immediately.

I’m talking about that very specific 2010s look where everyone somehow looked like they were either in an indie band, heartbroken, or about to post a blurry mirror selfie with a sad caption. It was chaotic, slightly dramatic, and weirdly iconic.

Fashion back then felt a lot more personal. People weren’t all dressing like they came out of the same Pinterest board titled “clean girl neutral capsule wardrobe.” There was more personality, more experimenting, and way less pressure to look expensive all the time. You could throw on a flannel, black jeans, scuffed Converse, maybe a beanie, and somehow it still felt like a whole identity.

And honestly? I miss outfits that looked a little imperfect. Not every look needs to be polished, minimalist, and algorithm-approved. Sometimes I want fashion to look like you got dressed based on your mood and not your For You Page.

So yeah, bring back the oversized flannels, the stacked bracelets, the combat boots, the layered chaos, all of it.

Because at least 2010s fashion had main character energy without trying so hard to look effortlessly rich.

When we look back at the 2010s, it was a very strange but exciting time for fashion in India. We saw everything from neon colors to skinny jeans, but if you ask me which trend absolutely needs to make a comeback, it is the "Indo-Western Fusion" style that became huge around 2015. This was the time when people started wearing long ethnic kurtas with denim jeans or leather jackets, and honestly, it was the most comfortable and stylish era for regular college students and office workers.

The 2010s fusion was special because it was not too heavy. Before that, ethnic wear was only for weddings, but in the 2010s, brands like Global Desi or FabIndia made it "cool" for daily life. Bringing back the short kurti with waistcoats or dhoti pants would be great because today’s fashion has become too much about "oversized" clothes which sometimes look like we are drowning in fabric. The 2010s trend had a better fit and showed our culture in a modern way.

Another trend from that time was the Statement Necklace. If you remember, girls used to wear a very simple plain t-shirt and put on a huge, colorful necklace. It was an effortless way to look "extra" without spending too much money. Today, everything is very "minimal," which is sometimes a bit boring. Bringing back those bold accessories would add some fun to our daily outfits.

Also, we cannot forget the High-Low Tops (also called Mullet tops). They were short from the front and long from the back. They looked very stylish with leggings or jeggings. In 2026, amidst the trend of "fast fashion," revisiting these 2010s classics would provide a refreshing change.

The reason the trend needs to come back is that 2010s fashion was about "mixing and matching." It was not perfect, but it was very "human." It allowed us to use what we already had in our wardrobe to create something new. In a world where AI is deciding what we should wear, going back to the colorful and experimental 2010s vibe would make fashion fun again. It was the perfect balance of comfort, tradition, and global style.
