The term ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems signifies a group of intelligent safety and comfort features that are aimed at making driving safer, convenient, and more comfortable. Such systems rely on sensors, cameras, radars and even AI in order to continuously observe the environment surrounding the vehicle and guide the driver to make safer choices on the road.

Such typical ADAS capabilities as the lane keep assist that prevents unintentional lane drift and collision warning systems, which notify the driver in case the car predicts the forthcoming crash, are also typical. Adaptive cruise control, which automatically increases or slows the car as the one in front of it slows down, and automatic emergency braking, which is able to apply brakes should the driver not respond quickly enough to prevent an obstacle, are also available in many cars.

All these technologies combined greatly decrease the risk of accidents and make the drivers more attentive and in control, particularly on a long ride or in traffic jams. ADAS does not substitute the driver as an intelligent co-pilot, it makes driving safer and gives additional assurance at the wheel.
