Mangalyaan, also known as the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), was India's first interplanetary space mission that was launched on November 5, 2013, by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The objective of the mission was to study Mars' surface, atmosphere, and its mineral composition, and to look for signs of life on the planet.
Mangalyaan spacecraft reached the Martian orbit on September 24, 2014, and made India the first Asian country and the fourth country in the world to successfully reach Mars. The mission was accomplished in a very cost-effective way, with a budget of approximately $75 million, which is a fraction of the cost of other Mars missions such as NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
