My all time favorite movie is Haider.
Yes I'm aware of the fact that there are many Hollywood movies which are better than this one, but there are very few chance when you get to appreciate Indian cinematic art. And Haider gives us one such chance.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Haider is the third movie in Bhardwaj's Shakeaprean trilogy. While the first movie of the trilogy, Maqbool was based on Shakespeare's play Macbeth and the second movie, Omkara was the adaptation of Othello, Haider being the third, is the story of Hamlet.
Taken from the great dramatist Shakeapeare himself, the story just can't be anything but awesome. It is primarily a revenge tragedy, just like the play Hamlet where a son wants to avenge his father's murder. He finds himself procrastinating the deed as the murderer is his own uncle, who has also married his widowed mother now.
This Elizabethan drama has very well adapted and superimposed on the conditions of Kashmiri valley and people living there, thus making the classic old take contemporary.
Shahid Kapoor, whose father is killed because being a doctor, he gave refuge to some injured militants in his house, has played the role of an ordinary youth going mad due to the tragedies in his life quite convincingly. Tabbu and Sharaddha Kapoor are also a delight to the eyes.
The whole atmosphere is so uncanny that it actually gives a delight to the heart for the kind of artistic efforts that are put into this movie. The music, the songs, the plot, the dialogues, all are on point.
You must watch the movie if you haven't watched it yet.
