From what I realize that was Mussolini's turf. Italians were so awful at war that Hitler sent his best Field Marshal Erwin Rommel to order the Afrika Korps. After numerous fruitful German missions Winston Churchill got truly pissed at his officer and eased him with the incomparable Bernard Montgomery. Things turned for the Brits. The Germans had no real way to send fortifications or supplies since the Royal Navy controlled the Air and the Sea. Rommel made a last remain at El Alamein in which he figured out how to escape along numerous others to the consternation of Churchill and Bernie. Rommel was likely the best Commander in WWII. Hitler and that fat awkward Goering lost the Africa lobby themselves
