If you're unfamiliar with mental health, it's a general term that covers any disorders that affect someone's thoughts, feelings, or behavior. Mental illness is not the same thing as just being sad or going through a rough time - people with mental health issues may have difficulty functioning in social situations. They may also have trouble communicating and interacting with others, controlling their impulses and/or emotions, or staying on task.
The simplest answer to this question is "yes" — these illnesses are very real and they affect billions of people worldwide every single day.
