It’s an old saying that what happens, happens for a reason; and it seems like the saying has proven to be true in the case of Anjum Moudgil who missed Asian Games 2018 due to a bad series performance. Missing out on a medal in Asian Games was a “disappointment”, and rightly so. Asian Games was also important for her career from the point of view of her selection for the coming Olympics.

But the loss was compensated quite well by her by winning a medal in the ISSF World Cup in Korea. She became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the ISSF World Cup.

“On Monday, Moudgil became the only Indian woman shooter to win a medal in the 10m Air Rifle event, a silver behind Hana Im of Korea. Moudgil’s silver and Apurvi Chandela’s fourth-place finish meant that India earned two quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the earliest possible opportunity”, says the Indian Express.
Anjum Moudgil was able to grab hold of his achievement because she couldn’t qualify the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Asian Games after finishing ninth in qualification. Arriving earlier in Korea, the shooter got enough time to practice at the Changwon International Shooting Range for a week and it proved beneficial for her performance. She won the medal she was eyeing upon since long. And not only this, she also fixed her place in in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
