“I was tired of being the second best”, were Vinesh Phogat’s words after winning the gold medal in wrestling for India. I think the words sum up the answer to your question.

After defeating Japan’s Yukie Irie yesterday, Vinesh Phogat has ended her losing streak, and India can’t just stop being proud of her. Why? Becauseshe has become the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in Asian Games. In Asian Games 2018, the medal is the second gold India has one. The first one was won by Bajran Punia in wrestling on Sunday.

The other medals that India has won until now in Asian Games 2018 are one silver in archery by Deepak Kumar and bronze, won by Ravi Kumar and Apoorvi Chandela in shooting.

So until now 18th Asian Games are going well for Indians. Despite the tough competition from Japanese, Chinese, and Korean athletes, Indians are winning and I wish them all the best for the rest of the journey of the Asiads.

But all these wins one side, and Vinesh Phogat’s gold medal on the other after the failure she faced in Rio Olympics, after which she came wheeling herself to receive the Arjuna award. No one was expecting such an exceptional game from her side due to her previous injuries. The happiness for the gold is more intensified as other Indian women wrestlers, Sakshi Malik and Pooja Dhanda, went down in the Asiads. Vinesh Phogat is keeping our spirits and hopes high despite the previous defeats.
