Arun Jaitley was a lawyer who defended many high-profile clients in high-stake cases, right from L.K. Advani to Sharad Yadav.

He was a political leader. In his college days, at DU, he was the student leader of ABVP. Part of multiple campaigns and movements during his younger days, at one time, he was the most prominent face of the opposition.

He was a union minister who held many key portfolios during both Vajpayee and Modi government, right from finance and defense to law & justice and corporate affairs. He looked after GST, demonetization, and merger of railway and general budget.

Arun Jaitley was born to a lawyer. He studied in posh St. Xavier’s school. He completed his graduation from Shri Ram College of Commerce and LLB from the University of Delhi.

So, when you run through the life of Arun Jaitley, it gets quite evident that he likely never had a money problem. He came from a good family. Throughout his career, even until his last few months, he held key positions and played important roles.

He must have inherited a decently big wealth of his family.

As a lawyer who defended so many renowned political leaders and people from the corporate world, he must have earned A LOT.

As one of the tallest leaders of the world’s biggest political party, he must have enjoyed enough income and concessions – much like all top BJP leaders.

And then, yes, as a union minister, he earned good enough and enjoyed big perks from the state.

Arun Jaitley was rich.

He was a brand-conscious person. He loved big brands, right from Mont Blanc and Patek Phillipe to John Lobb and high-end Porsches. India Today has a good article on this; give it a read: Arun Jaitley’s love for high-end brands.

Now coming to the exact numbers…

In 2014, in his affidavit, Arun Jaitley declared his total wealth of Rs 113.02 crore, which includes his spouse’s – Rs 75.7 crore being immovable asset and Rs 37.32 movable.

At the time, his wealth included four different residential properties, old jewelry, cash, many high-end cars and more. (Source)

All his wealth made Arun Jaitley the richest minister in the Modi government.

Thereon, aside from his affidavit in 2014, not much is known about the wealth of Arun Jaitley. But, assumingly, overall, his wealth must have only increased.

Salary of Member of Parliament of India is around Rs 1,00,000 a month. Plus, they also get constituency allowance, parliament session allowance, and plenty more perks and concessions. So, Arun Jaitley must have made good money here.

Of course, to have such a huge wealth already, he must have also made other investments.

So, if you round-off every source – from his law practice to being a political leader to being a minister – Arun Jaitley was rich. He could perhaps be one of the richest Indian ministers when you don’t factor the undisclosed wealth of other ministers.

Arun Jaitley lived a pretty luxurious life. BUT, yet, somehow, he remained so humble.
