But his first few films which included his hindi film Jwar Bhata in 1944 did not do well .But his performance in 'Jugnu' in 1947, was much loved by the people , making the film his first major hit.It was in the 50’s that Dilip Kumar became a real success with many of his films being major hits like Babul,' 'Devdas,' 'Hulchul,' 'Yahudi,' 'Daag,' 'Sairat,' 'Naya Daur,' and 'Deedar'.These films catapulted him to the title of The Tragedy King.He won the best actor Filmfare Award eight times.
