Demineralization Plant refers to the plants used for removing minerals from water. As the name suggests, Demineralization is removal of minerals from water. This process is carried out by ion exchange process. It is also known as the Deionized Water. It is the physical process which removes cations of sodium, calcium, iron, copper, etc and anions like chloride, sulphates, etc. Demineralization process is widely used for steam, power lines, cooling and processes.

Demineralization plants, also called demin plants, are used to study the effects of water quality on both aquatic ecosystems and drinking water. Demin plants are often used in a laboratory setting to analyze how microorganisms can cause degradation of drinking water.

The first step in running a demin plant is choosing the ideal site for it. This should be indoors so that no microbes enter into the system when it's being run, but there needs to be sufficient space around it so that enough light can reach all areas where reactions are occurring. If this isn't possible, though, then an outdoor mesh screen may need to be installed over an indoor tank system so that air bubbles and volatiles don't contaminate everything else.
