The ODI World Cup 2019 began on the 30th of May, 2019. England and South Africa locked horns with each other in the opening encounter of the 2019 World Cup. South African captain, Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl first. England were off to a brilliant start and eventually got to a good total of 311, for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs with Ben Stokes having the top score of 89 runs of just 79 balls. In reply, South Africa were not off to a brilliant start like England had. Wickets kept on falling and nobody got a partnership going. Even though Quinton de Kock scored the most runs for South Africa, having a score of 68 runs of 74 balls, nobody supported him from the other end and eventually South Africa fell short by a mammoth 104 runs. Ben Stokes was awarded the Player of the Match Award for his superb, all-round performance in all aspects.
