A generic medicine/drug is a type of medication which is created in the same way as any brand-named product and is exactly the same in dosage, strength, safety precautions, the administration route, the quality and much more and it also works in the same way as a brand-name medicine works. However, one of the major differences between a brand-name medicine and a generic medicine is the price. Generic medicines always are cheaper than the brand-named medicine. The reason why they are so cheap is because these medicines don't have to go through the clinical and animal studies. These studies are conducted to show that the medicine is safe to use. However, when the medicine is generic, the maker doesn't have to show that the medicine is safe to have. For example, Advil is a brand name which has gone through the whole process of safety. The generic counterpart of this medicine is known as Ibuprofen which is obviously cheaper and hasn't gone through the safety tests.
Hope this is helpful.
