It’s the first time in history, Indian women’s Kabaddi team is returning without a gold from Asian Games 2018. Yes, this a perfect example of the fact that history is created not only positively, but negatively as well.
So the story behind India’s downfall in Kabbadi by the hands of Iran is not only shocking but also filmy.
As the story goes, Shailaja Jain, is a Kabbaddi player from Maharashtra who never got a chance to play for India. So when Iran offered her to coach their women’s Kabbaddi team she accepted the offer in the second time.
“When I first visited Iran, I said my mission is to prove I’m the best coach. And now we have the result,” these are the happy remarks of Shailaja Jain upon Iran’s victory and India’s defeat in Asian Games’ Kabbaddi tournament.
The defeat came as a shock after the men’s team lost Kabbadi match against Iran.
“Before the final, I told the girls ‘don’t send me back to India without a gold’, adds the coach of Iranian women’s Kabaddi team.
There is some cross cultural integration that took place as Jain joined the Iranian side. She taught her team some yoga postures and learnt Persian for the better communication.
So here’s a rare example of a person being faithful to her sport and passion than her country. It’s positively negative or negatively positive, that’s hard to say. Hope no one accuses her of harboring anti-national sentiment.
