Well, the last Indianized Marvel thing I encountered was the Indian Marvel Anthem, composed by A. R. Rahman, and it was an utter disaster. So personally, I would rather keep Marvel and Indian art away from each other, even in my imagination.
According to the latest buzz, the Avengers: Endgame director, Joe Russo visited India and in a press release confirmed that he is in talks with Priyanka Chopra for a Marvel project. I just want to ask him, why Russo?
Okay, Priyanka Chopra has proved herself time and again be it her Bollywood performance or Quantico, but I just can’t be comfortable seeing her beside any Marvel superhero. Even Brie Larson is being criticized for her role as the first woman superhero, Captain Marvel, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So do you think Priyanka Chopra can pull off the role of a superhero, which she has never done before?
I even doubt if she can be an agent as good as Black Widow, despite her Quantico performance. And would she really be able to match the magnanimity of Red Witch? Let’s not even go to Iron Man, Thor, or Hulk.
Yet, she might play one of the Ms. Marvels of the Marvel Universe. Most probably the Muslim Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan.
I think the last (and only) time I have seen her in a superhero movie is when she played the female lead in Krish (Nice joke, eh?).
I can understand that India is one of the biggest potential markets for MCU and that’s why they want to pitch in an Indian actor. And following the Hollywoodification of Priyanka Chopra, could there be a better choice for them? She will ensure both Indian and foreign audience.
But no Marvel, we are not ready for it.
