An Audiologist begins by asking about your symptoms, medical history, and any hearing difficulties. This helps identify possible causes before testing.
The most common test is pure tone audiometry. You wear headphones and respond when you hear different sounds at various pitches and volumes. This shows how sensitive your hearing is.
They may also perform a speech test, where you repeat words to check how clearly you understand speech, not just hear sounds.
Another test, called tympanometry, checks how your eardrum moves and identifies issues like fluid or blockage in the middle ear.
In some cases, advanced tests are used to examine inner ear function. These tests are painless and quick, helping the specialist accurately diagnose hearing problems and suggest the right treatment.
