In finance language, equity is generally termed as the shareholders’ equity. In simpler language it can be defined as the money which is privately held by the owners of the companies. These amounts of money which were held by the owners would be returned to them after paying off all the debts at the time of liquidation. These shareholder equity can also be represented as the book value of the company.
