Sharbat Bibi turned out to be broadly known as the 'Afghan Girl' when National Geographic picture taker Steve McCurry caught her photo at the Nasir Bagh displaced person camp arranged on the edge of Peshawar in 1984 and recognized her as Sharbat Gula.
She increased overall acknowledgment when her picture was included on the front of the June 1985 issue of National Geographic Magazine when she was around 12 years of age.
