Have you ever seen an athlete getting bruises and cuts and often falling down, but still improving herself, a student may be seen studying under a midnight oil. What makes these people still go for their goal even when odds are against them at every turn?
how can we motivate other people ?
Well, answer is simple “Motivation” , it may be defined as something which prompts, compels and energises an individual to act or behave in a particular manner.
There are various methods by which by which individuals can be motivated, like a mother running after her child, father giving his old watch as a praise to his son or teacher giving punishment to student for not completing homework.
Techniques of enhancing motivation-
1) Linking the new learning with past- Experience is a great teacher. What has been learned in the past is also a good motivator. A task seems to be easy and interesting when one has the prior knowledge of it. Eg. Child is easily motivated in learning new task if he is well aware of the knowledge which is required as a base for learning new thing.
2) Use of effective devices, methods and aids- A good motivator would use interesting methods like audio-visual aids, interaction among peers and socially engaging programmes to motivate a set of class.
3) Praise and Reproof- Both praise and reproof are potent incentives. They can be safely used for achievement of desired results.
4) Rewards and Punishment- Both of them have the same results. While punishment can be used as a negative motivation based on the fear of failure; losing prestige, rejection so on.
Rewards and Punishment
In the end no matter how many incentives, methods or aids you use to motivate others the real motivation comes from within. Motivation is an internal feeling, the urge, the drive, the flame from within can be the best motivation for a person.
