Thyroid patients - especially hypothyroid which is common in India - need to be careful with a few things. Avoid eating too much soy (including soy milk), excessive cruciferous veggies like cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower, but cooked versions are okay.

Don't take calcium, iron, or fiber supplements at the same time as thyroid medication - gap of 4 hours minimum. Avoid refined flour and sugar which worsen thyroid function.

Iodine is important so don't avoid iodized salt - ironic but important. Most Indian households use rock salt which has no iodine, so actually check your salt. Work with your endocrinologist for specifics because everyone is different.

  • Avoid excess soy products
  • Raw cruciferous veggies problematic
  • Gap of 4 hours between meds and supplements
  • Don't skip iodized salt
  • Reduce refined flour and sugar
  • Avoid crash diets
  • Consistent routine important

Honestly thyroid diet stuff is way overblown. You don't need to cut out entire food groups. Eating normal amount of gobi (cauliflower) won't destroy thyroid. Most of these restrictions are exaggerated. The actual important things are: take medicine consistently at same time, maintain healthy weight, and get adequate iodine. That's it. Stop cutting everything out based on internet advice. Thyroid patients in India live normally and eat normally - they just need consistent medication. The fear about food is way more than the actual problem. Talk to your doctor about your specific case instead of following generic advice that may not apply to you.
