When is ABPM better than a regular blood pressure check?

When it comes to checking blood pressure, a single reading at a clinic doesn’t always show the full picture. That’s where Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) becomes more useful.

ABPM is better when readings vary a lot. Some people show normal values at home but high readings at the doctor’s office, a condition often called White Coat Hypertension. It is also helpful when doctors suspect hidden issues like masked hypertension, where blood pressure appears normal in clinic but rises during daily activities.

ABPM tracks blood pressure over 24 hours, including during sleep, giving a more accurate and complete picture. This helps in diagnosing conditions properly and adjusting treatment if needed. It is especially useful for patients already on medication, as it shows how well the treatment is working throughout the day.

For detailed and reliable insights, ABPM is often more effective than a one-time reading.
