Toxoplasmosis is an infection which is cuased by a single-celled parasite which is known as Toxoplasma gondii. This infection is most commonly found in the skeletal muscle, brain or the eyes. Some symptoms to look out for are swollen lymph glands, especially those which are around the neck, muscle aches, severe headache and fever. This type of an infection can be caused by eating undercooked meats of any kind. This infection can cause severe lung or brain disease and leaves a person with highly weakened immunity. Generally, it is said that approximately, 25 to 30% of the population may have Toxoplasmosis. Studies show that healthy/not pregnant people are said to recover quickly and naturally without any medication or special treatments. However, pregnant women, newborns, infants, people with ocular disease or people with a compromised immune system struggle from recovering from this infection. The infection never goes away completely. Some drugs/medications that can be given if the cases are too severe are a combination pyrimethamine, sulfadiazine and folinic acid.
